Babies and toddlers

Our Baby Nursery is composed of three spacious rooms and is a specialist area dedicated to the high quality care of babies from three months. There are enormous variety of quality baby and toddler toys and equipment for the children. This helps give them the very best start in life.

Our Baby Nursery is bright, stimulating, warm, welcoming and hygienic. Our babies and toddlers have bright rooms in which to play, learn and have fun. There are “soft” homely areas with fitted carpets, cushions, and spacious “messy” areas. There are quiet rest spaces for sleeping. We have two wonderful soft surfaced gardens for play and games.

There is one member of staff to every three babies. Our trained and qualified staff form close relationships with your baby to ensure that they feel loved and emotionally secure. These positive feelings go hand in hand with learning and development. Every child has a Key Worker.

Your Baby's skill development

Babies interpret the world around them through their senses. To stimulate their senses we provide a multi sensory environment with toys, activities and experiences which are appropriate to this age group. Babies need opportunities and encouragement for reaching, grasping, sucking, kicking, waving, banging, visual tracking and for moving their heads. Playful, innovative games with adults develop movements like clapping and new facial expressions.

Our babies and toddlers have a planned programme of enjoyable activities to stimulate your baby’s development. These are based on interesting topics and ensure development.

Language Development - Communication skills are developed by observing and interacting with a babies smiling, babbling, looking , reaching out and crying and responding to these appropriately by repeating, talking, encouraging and listening. In addition to this word rhymes, picture books, songs and stories and lots and lots of conversation will stimulate your baby’s language development at Independent Place Nursery and Baby Nursery.

Sensorial development - It is widely recognised that a multi sensory approach enhances development and learning. Our programmes are based on this approach and enable children to develop rapidly.

Practical life skills - Play activities are planned to incorporate activities that encourage independent thinking, control, co-ordination and manipulative skills.

Physical co-ordination - Babies need opportunities and encouragement for reaching grasping, sucking, kicking, waving, banging, visual tracking and for moving their heads. Playful imitative games with adults develop movements like clapping and the development of new facial expressions.

Social skills - The organisation and routines within our Baby Nursery will enable children to make friends, play with others and develop social skills.

Tiny talk - Baby Signing - Our children benefit from the expert teaching of Caroline Hands. Our staff receive certified training in the Tiny Talk system. It has been shown that this enhances young children’s language development.

Music and Singing - Very young children love the musical sessions with our expert teacher. Early experiences with instruments give much pleasure and facilitate early learning.
